we all fly
public art installation, australia

we all fly is a permanent installation for the Lockyer District High School. Inspired by a hip-hop music workshop with the students of the school the installation captures the spirit of ''we'' and explores ideas of personal identity and community. Through the combination of words ''we'', ''all'' and ''fly'', it responds to the emotional landscape of the local community which is one of growing isolation and sectarianism. The steel letter wings, which combine traditional blacksmithing with contemporary plasma cutting, rise from a bed of alphabets and soar towards the sky in a defiant gesture of hope and celebration.
